President-Elect Donald Trump’s pick for secretary of defense, General James “Bulldog” Mattis is a Washington state native and now Mr. Trump seems poised to pick another Washingtonian for his cabinet.  The online news site The Hill is reporting that Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) will be named to lead the Interior Department.

McMorris-Rodgers, a five-term Republican who represents eastern Washington and as the chair of the House GOP Conference she is the highest-ranking woman in GOP leadership.   If the Senate confirms McMorris Rodgers to lead Interior, she will be the second consecutive Washington state native to lead the department, succeeding outgoing Secretary Sally Jewell. 

The Hill reports “If confirmed by the Senate, McMorris Rodgers would lead the 70,000-employee, $12 billion Interior Department, which manages federal lands for both preservation and energy and mineral development, controls offshore drilling and oversees national parks.”
