
Joe Brusic Announces Retirement After 23 Years as Yakima County Prosecutor
Yakima County Prosecutor Joe Brusic has announced he will not seek re-election in November. In an email to his staff, Brusic described the decision as “huge,” made with the support and guidance of family and friends.
BRUSIC SAYS HE'S THANKFUL FOR ALL THE YEARS
Brusic expressed gratitude for his 23 years in the office, calling it the "best career and job" he could have imagined. He emphasized that he has always strived to serve the people of Yakima County, focusing on public safety across all divisions—criminal, civil, and child support.

12-YEARS AS YAKIMA COUNTY PROSECUTOR
First elected 12 years ago, Brusic, in the email talked about the challenging but rewarding years in office. He admits the stress and complexity of the role, citing issues such as staffing shortages, COVID-19 limitations, rising crime, heavy caseloads, and intense media and social media scrutiny. Brusic was in private practice before becoming the Yakima County Prosecutor.
STILL COMMITTED TO THE MISSION TODAY
However he says despite the challenges, he has remained committed to the mission of providing public safety and says he will miss working with his colleagues and the people of Yakima county.
GOING TO CONTINUE TO SERVE THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR
Brusic says he plans to continue serving in his role through the end of 2026, defending and advising county government before stepping down at year's end. He did not say what he'll be doing after he leaves the job at the end of the year.
