Have you spotted stink bugs, ladybugs, and cluster flies crawling near your doors yet? If not, you will soon, because these bugs like to snuggle inside during cold Yakima Valley fall and winter months. Bug don't worry, they are not dangerous to humans (pun intended).

Your warm home is their prime target. These autumn bugs crave warm spaces to escape the colder weather. Here are simple ways to block them out before winter hits.

Bug #1: Asian Ladybugs

Don't get it twisted: these "ladylike" multicolored beetles are already trying to find warm spots in your home. I caught a glimpse of one trying to sneak into our office building this afternoon near the welcome mat.

According to the Pacific Northwest Management Handbook, you can prevent them from invading your home by sealing windows and doors, and please don't smash them because they'll leave an orange stain.

Bug #2: Stink Bugs

Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs are what I like to call "The Real World" bugs: they love going inside homes when the weather stops being polite and starts getting real, really cold, that is! They will kill plants and crops without blinking an eye - but not in the fall and wintertime.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says these bugs prefer to do their damage only when it's hot outside.

Bug #3: Cluster Flies

I actually caught one flying around my house near one of the windowsills just yesterday! The way they move so slowly kinda reminds me of how I move around when I'm overweight and out of breath- sluggish, is the word that comes to mind, ha!

TheSpruce.com says they'll find a way to get into your home, so keep your flyswatter and flytraps handy, yes, even during the fall.
