Yakima Valley Readers Log 1.5 Million Minutes This Summer

In this day and age, it is more important than ever for people to ‘unplug’. Literally and metaphorically. Get away from the 24/7 news cycle and the bombardment of social media, but pick up a book (or if you must, an e-reader) and just enjoy a great story! And the Yakima Valley did just that!

Yakima Valley Libraries Summer Reading Challenge Wins Big

Back in May, the Yakima Valley Libraries launched a fun (and possibly challenging) reading program for the summer, and the results so far have been spectacular.

Earlier this week on their social media, the Yakima Valley Libraries shared the news that so far, our community has read over 1.5 million minutes. On average, that’s about 2.85 years' worth of reading! Well done!

I know I say “so far” because even though the Summer Reading Challenge has wrapped up, I’m hopeful that the love of reading stays with you (as it has me) and we’ll continue this fun hobby/escape for the rest of the year as well as far into the future.

• 1,523,686 minutes read!
• 38 prizes given away for reading and attending the programs.
• 2,661 readers registered!
• 653 finished!
• Over 3,400 YVL programs were attended!
• 41 Regional programs took part!
