A Jaw-Dropping View: Witness Yakima Like You've Never Seen It Before

The ability to fly is every kid’s dream superpower. Probably their first choice. Heck, I even still have dreams where I’m flying. Well, thanks to Stan Owen of Yakima, I will have those dreams stuck in my head for quite a while longer. The fantastic footage of the Yakima Valley he captured from his remote drone is awe-inspiring.

Stan posted a video of the Yakima Valley taken on November 20th from his drone launched from his house (around 50th & Summitview Ave.) and reaching a height of 164 feet. It is breathtaking. Take a look at the video below:

When I asked Stan about his drone and how he got his footage, he told me that the drone is a DJI Mavic Mini 2, which he bought for a great deal on eBay. According to Stan, it can go up to 6 miles, but the range has some limitations. So far, he’s only taken it about 200 feet. Check out this video of the higher elevation:

I also asked him about needing a license or permission from the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to fly his drone. He told me how clearance is required for specific areas like closer to the airport. Otherwise, because of its size, you don’t need it registered unless you plan to fly in a restricted location. He is looking into getting an FAA license. He informed me that passing the TRUST certification is a requirement for recreational flying, as well as following and state laws for drone flying. I'm just greatful he's taking those steps in his certification so he can bring us more amazing videos like this one (below) of Cowiche Canyon Trailhead that he posted on his Mentally Damaged Collectibles YouTube page.
