Yakima Police Respond to Attempted Bank Robbery Monday
A scary and tense situation ended on a peaceful note on the afternoon of Monday, August 10th, in Yakima when an attempted bank robbery took place. We have the details below.
911 Call Made From BMO Bank in Yakima
Around 5 pm Yakima Police Department Officers were all around the BMO Bank at 522 E Yakima Ave. prompting nearby city streets to be blocked off as officers responded to an armed robbery call.
Employees called 911 about a male armed with a machete who had entered the establishment with the intent to rob.
Yakima Police Department as well as Yakima Country Sheriff Deputies arrived on the scene, were able to negotiate with the 29-year-old Yakima man, and get bank customers and staff to evacuate safely.
After the Yakima Valley Crisis Response Unit responded to the scene, the subject, who was reportedly armed with several “edged weapons”, exited the bank and was taken into custody.

- 2nd Degree Malicious Mischief
- 2nd Degree Computer Trespassing
- Weapons Apparently Capable of Producing Bodily Harm
A motive for the Yakima man’s actions has not been released, but it was reported in the official Yakima Police Department Press Release that “the subject in distress had called 911 stating that he intended to rob the bank.”

When all is said and done, I’m incredibly happy law enforcement was there to do their job, and that no one was reportedly hurt. I hope that the man who was arrested finds justice and the help he needs.
