Yakima city officials are hoping to make upwards of a million dollars in improvements to Randall Park next year.

City Parks and Recreation Manager Ken Wilkenson says the city has received donations and is hoping for a possible state grant to fund the improvements. He says they will improve landscaping, install new bathrooms fencing and playground equipment and basketball courts and improvements in the pond.

We’ve been working with the State Fish and Wildlife and the Department of Ecology. We’d like a new picnic and playground area and major improvements to the pond area maybe even a new observation area for the pond.

Wilkenson says the city has received a $100,000 anonymous matching donation that will give a dollar for every dollar donated. The city is working with the Yakima Community Foundation in raising the needed funds.

They hope to start the work by next spring.
