While much of the United States is celebrating is celebrating their Irish heritage today, for some reason I'm just not feeling it this year.

Why am I not reveling in the "wearin' o' the green" today? It's hard to put a finger on it.  I've always liked this holiday, even though the folks in Ireland look at how we Americans get all wound up about St. Patrick's Day while shaking their heads.

All of my children went to school today in some form of green clothing so they wouldn't get pinched.

This is as close as I got.

Yeah, I know it's lime green and not Kelly green, but it's as close as I could come. Green is not a color that I normally wear, so my wardrobe choices for today are limited.

My mother's maiden name was McCoy, so I do have some Irish heritage. The McCoys were what was called a "Gallowglass", Scottish mercenaries who were given land in Ireland in return for fighting for the British Crown.

Maybe it's because that some of my relatives that do have more Irish blood can be really obnoxious about today, playing the "I'm more Irish than you are" card.  They can be pretty insufferable about it.

Maybe it's because that since I had successful bariatric surgery, I've given up alcohol. No shot of Black Label Bushmill's Irish Whiskey to celebrate with.

In any case, even though I'm not searching for shamrocks and pounding pints of Guiness, I hope you have a happy St. Patrick's Day.

I'll try to gear up for Cinco de Mayo.
