Hispanic Family Attacker Charged With Hate Crime

A man who police say attacked a Hispanic family near a Union Gap restaurant last Saturday was charged with a hate crime Wednesday in Yakima County Superior Court. 30 year old Peter Weller faces 2 counts of malicious harassment. Police say Weller threw a beer can at the family’s car and followed the car into a restaurant parking lot. The man pounded on a side window until it broke and bit the father on the shoulder during a struggle. Police say Weller told them he hates Mexicans. Weller remains in the jail today facing charges.
