Get Your Evergreen Ready: Yakima Calls for Holiday Tree Nominations

The holiday season is just around the corner, and the City of Yakima, in partnership with the Downtown Association of Yakima, is calling for nominations for this year's Community Christmas Tree. Residents are invited to nominate well-shaped evergreen trees from their properties to serve as the central attraction for holiday festivities in downtown Yakima.

HERE'S THE DETAILS YOU'LL NEED

Eligible trees must be between 20 to 25 feet tall and situated in locations with easy access for removal, ideally accommodating a 25-foot by 45-foot crane and nearby space for a 35-foot trailer. Those wishing to participate in the festive tradition are encouraged to identify a suitable tree and submit their nominations.

IT'S EASY TO NOMINATE YOUR TREE

To nominate a tree, interested property owners can contact Cally Price, Assistant to the City Manager, at 509-575-6040. The nomination period remains open until a final selection is made during the week of November 14.

THE TREE WILL BE TRANSPORTED DOWNTOWN FOR A DECEMBER 1 CEREMONY

The chosen tree will undergo a careful removal process, cut and lifted by crane rather than felled, ensuring the safety of both the tree and surrounding property. Once selected, the tree will be transported to Millennium Plaza, where it will be the centerpiece of the annual tree-lighting ceremony scheduled for Sunday, December 1.

IT'S TIME TO NOMINATE YOUR TREE AS THE COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS TREE

After a nomination is submitted, a representative from the Downtown Association will reach out to the property owner to arrange a visit to assess the tree and its accessibility.
