Full Time Bike Patrols On Hold Downtown

A shortage of available Yakima Police officers has cancelled the weekly bike patrols downtown but Chief Dominic Rizzi says they will be available for special events. He says the problem is that the department now has 16 officers in training with other officers. "Until we can those folks out of training it's a strain to take four of them and put them on the street." Rizzi says there's a possibility the bike patrols could return to 7 days a week later this year. But for now Rizzi says the bike patrols will be used on targeted days when big events happen downtown.
