A big change is planned for the freeway in Union Gap if a state transportation package is passed by the legislature this year. Don Whitehouse the Regional Administrator for the Department of Transportation says one of the projects in the package is to create better access to I-82 in South Union Gap. "If you're in south Union Gap you can get on the freeway to go to Ellensburg so we have a project that will really change Union Gap." He says it'll make the property along Mainstreet in Union Gap much more valuable simply because of the access to the freeway. The $34 million dollar project is listed in the transportation package along with projects in Yakima that will provide access to the mill site along I-82. Lawmakers are considering the proposal that includes an 11.5 cent gas tax increase in Washington State.
