Free Family Event Features Aircraft Displays, Food Vendors, and Military Aircraft
City officials are hoping you're planning to attend the 2nd annual Aviation Day at Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field Saturday, June 7th, from 10 am to 4 pm.
IT'S A FREE EVENT FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY
A press release from the city of Yakima says the free, family-friendly event will include a variety of aircraft on display, with numerous booths highlighting the aviation industry. You'll also find food vendors, military aircraft and helicopters.
THE AIRPORT WILL REMAIN OPEN DURING THE EVENT
Aviation Day will be held next to the airport’s active runway 9/27 which will remain open throughout the event so the public can see aircraft landing and taking off.
Parking will be available in YKM’s main terminal, ADA parking at 2406 West Washington Avenue, grass parking by Coffee Castle and YCDA, and across the street at Perry Tech and Perry Tech Lane with shuttle services available to and from the event.
HOW ABOUT SOME BREAKFAST?
Also, a Fly In Pancake Breakfast is planned June 7th from 8 am to 11 am sponsored by EAA Chapter 206. The breakfast will be at Yakima Air Park, 2401 South 21st Avenue, with entry off of Ahtanum Boulevard.
WILL WE SEE AN AIR SHOW?
Unfortunately Aviation Day will not include an air show. However, airport staff say they're working towards an air show in the future. The Director of Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field Rob Hodgman says he believes it could happen within the next couple of years. However he says right now the focus is on getting more people to fly out of the Yakima Air Terminal and support flights so more flights to different destinations can become a reality.
