Former State Senator And Yakima Valley Native Alex Deccio Dies

Longtime former State Senator Alex Deccio has died at the age of 89. He had been in failing health for the past few years, and passed away Tuesday evening at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center.

Mayor Micah Cawley called Deccio, “an incredible man who did great things for Yakima.”

Deccio retired from the State Senate back in 2006 after 32 years of serving the public. Aside from the Senate, he was also a State Representative and Yakima County Commissioner. Deccio was a veteran of WW II and took part in the Normandy Invasion. Services are now being planned but they have not been announced.
