On Tuesday, June 14th, at noon in the Tieton City Square, located at 607 Maple Street, Tieton, WA, the 6th Annual Flag Day Event for the City of Tieton will be held. This event honors the men and women of the Highland community who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces. LTC Michael J. Daniels, garrison commander at the Yakima Training Center, is the featured speaker. Although the event serves to honor all area veterans, each year a number of veterans are selected for special recognition of their service. LTC Daniels will make formal presentations to this year's honorees, those being Matt Kezele, Roy Kelley, and Les Allen. All area veterans are invited and encouraged to attend.

Highlighting this year's event is the "Reading of the Names." The names of all local residents who have served in the military are read during the program to honor their service to our country. More than 500 names were read at last year's event, and this year's list has grown beyond that. Another crowd favorite is the Posting of the Colors, the Rifle Salute, and the playing of "Taps," all of which will be provided by VFW Post #379. Also on display at this year’s event will be various military equipment, ranging from WWII jeeps to current day trucks and Humvees.

This is a free event and the general public is encouraged to attend. A buffet immediately following the event will be held at Vickie's Café. A donation will be received at the event on behalf of VFW Post #379.

The event organizer is Norma Joiner. She can be contacted at (509) 673-2055 for more information.
