First Tee of Yakima is growing. The development program that teaches kids the game of golf but also about life will break ground on a new practice facility May 31 at the SOZO Sports Complex at 2200 South 36th Avenue. The groundbreaking is set for 10:00 a.m.
The new facility includes a 9-hole green, three mid-range holes and three more small artificial greens. Because it's located at the park like setting of SOZO sports they'll be able to offer a wheelchair accessible path, special wheel chair accessible tee blocks. The facility will also house offices for staff.

A news release from the First Tee explains the program.
"The First Tee of Yakima is the local chapter of a national youth development program. Each of The First Tee’s more than 160 chapters promote the nine core values of Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy and Judgment, and work to instill youth around the world with personal qualities and skills crucial to succeeding in life."
