Firefighters Battle Flames and Wind in Early Morning Fire
A fire early Tuesday destroyed a home in the 1800 block of South 12th Avenue. Yakima Fire Department Firefighters were called to the home at about 12:23 a.m. and when they arrived the home was engulfed in flames with a 20 mph wind. A news release says the wind-driven fire threatened homes on three sides. Crews spent hours dousing the flames. No injuries were reported and those in the home are being helped by the American Red Cross. Damage is estimated at $250,000. The cause remains under investigation.
