A push to bring back fire inspections in Yakima could become a reality today. The city council is expected to debate a proposal by City Manager Tony O'Rourke during tomorrow's council meeting. Mayor Micah Cawley says the plan would reinstate the inspections under the fire department.

Under the new proposal the positions would be funded by an increase in business license fees.  Businesses would still need an outside firm to complete safety checks for things like sprinklers.  Another option would have businesses pay after each inspection. The council is expected to debate the proposal tonight.
