Six companies are facing fines for selling fruits and vegetables imported from Mexico, China, Thailand, and Taiwan that were tainted with pesticides that are banned in the UC. The California Department of Pesticide Regulation says the companies were importing and selling produce to stores that primarily cater to California’s ethnic communities, and that the companies were given ample opportunities to change their methods but chose not to do so. The companies are all based in California, and the food was sold only in that state. Since 2013, DPR has repeatedly found imported produce for sale in California that exceeds U.S. pesticide limits.

On the final day of the comment period, advocates for the Renewable Fuel Standard delivered more than 200,000 comments to the EPA in favor of a strong final rule. Fuels America delivered the comments, but says they do not paint the full picture. “The Renewable Fuel Standard represents a promise to rural America—a promise that, when kept, helped rural economies across America make a strong comeback," said Roger Johnson, president of the National Farmers Union and one of the Fuels America members who dropped comments off at the EPA Monday morning.
