The 33-year-old driver of a Ferrari died May 24 when his sports car collided with a mid-size SUV. Gabriel Pigotti was behind the wheel of a 1994 Ferrari 348 going southbound on Highway 97 near Mud Hollow Road as the driver of a northbound 2011 Ford Edge turned left off the highway onto the road. The two vehicles collided. Witnesses told investigators the Ferrari's speed may have been a factor in the accident. After impact, the Ferrari crashed 20 feet off the highway. Firefighters pulled Pigotti from the wreckage. He was taken by air ambulance to Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles where he was pronounced dead two hours later.

The driver of the Ford, 90-year-old Peter J. Macnab of Wasco, was taken by Sherman County Rural ambulance to Mid-Columbia Medical Center with minor injuries.
