
Fatal Head-On Collision on Ahtanum Road: Investigation Underway
A two vehicle crash west of Wiley City on Monday resulted in the death of a 29-year-old man from Union Gap. Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the 13000 block of Ahtanum Road just after 12:00 pm after getting a report of a serious crash in the area.
DEPUTIES FOUND A CRASH SCENE WITH ONE DEAD
When they arrived they found a silver 2005 Honda Civic on the north side of Ahtanum Road along with a Kenworth power utility vehicle belonging to Power Technology Incorporated. Deputies say the Kenworth was on the south side of Ahtanum Road with "extensive damage."
AUTHORITIES SAY THE HONDA DRIVER CROSSED THE CENTER LINE
After an investigation the deputies found that the driver of the Honda, identified as 29-year-old Isaiah Torres was traveling westbound on Ahtanum road when he crossed the center line and struck head-on the Kenworth driving eastbound. Torres, who was not wearing a seatbelt died at the scene of the crash while the Kenworth driver only had minor injuries.
NO WORD ON THE CAUSE
So what caused the crash? No answer from local authorities but the incident is under investigation by the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division.
YAKIMA POLICE ARE STILL INVESTIGATING A CRASH REPORTED LAST FRIDAY
Yakima Police continue to investigate a crash reported last Friday W Nob Hill Blvd and 40th Avenue. Police say a Semi-Truck collided with a small truck and then the signal pole. Authorities say the crash happened at about 4:30 am Friday. The semi-truck was loaded with Pepsi products so it took authorities a little longer to clear the crash scene. There are reports the truck driver ran a red light but nothing official from Yakima Police.
The semi-truck driver was taken to a Yakima hospital but the other driver was not injured.
