With a vote of the Yakima City Council the Committee for Downtown Yakima will close at the end of the month. The council voted Tuesday against imposing tax on business and property owners to continue the cleanup work downtown. The council voted 4-3 against imposing the tax. Dave Ettl, Micah Cawley, Rick Ensey and Bill Lover all voted against imposing the tax. Cawley is planning a forum at the Yakima Convention Center later this month to talk to business and property owners about how the CDY can continue it's work. He tells KIT News Something must be done to maintain the downton area. But for now the vote by the council ends the official work of CDY by the end of the month. The city took the action Tuesday after the CDY wasn't able to get the 60 percent approval needed from property and business owners to continue the CDY work.
