Yakima Fire Department Firefighters battled flames of a house fire early Tuesday morning in the 900 block of South 8th Street. Fire officials say they were called to the fire at about 4:10 a.m. When they arrived to find the family including two children outside the home. They say the family was lucky one of the children woke up and alerted the family because there were no working smoke alarms in the home. YFD Shift Commander Jennifer Norton says "Working smoke alarms save lives. Please check yours today.”
Damage is estimated at $75,000. The cause remains under investigation but investigators say it appears to be an accidental fire.
