The city of Yakima will celebrate the life and accomplishments of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. next week. The theme to Yakima's 36th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration is “Power in the People!...Freedom, Equality, Prosperity.” A food distribution at the Henry Beauchamp Community Center is set for Friday before the national holiday on Monday.
On Monday two events are planned. The Lower Valley Peace Drive will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. starting at Toppenish Middle School.
In Yakima the annual Peace Walk has been cancelled but a Martin Luther King Jr. Virtual Celebration will be held on ZOOM from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Then January 19 through January 22 the 18th Annual Lee Paggett Food Drive will be held. You can Drop off non-perishable food items at either Eisenhower or Davis High School outside the main offices at both high schools.
