An East Valley teacher won't be welcomed back to the classroom anytime soon. The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction has given Michele Taylor notice that it intends to revoke her teaching certificate based on a complaint of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct with students made to its Office of Professional Practices. Taylor was aquitted of criminal charges last june. But the office has conducted its own separate investigation of the matter. Taylor has 30 days within which to request an appeal of the proposed order. When charges were made against Ms. Taylor in June of 2009, she was immediately placed on administrative leave and has not returned to teaching. OSPI became involved early on when the District’s Superintendent reported Ms. Taylor to OSPI for violation of the Code of Professional Conduct for teachers. Under Washington law, when a superintendent possesses sufficient reliable information to conclude that one of his/her teachers has engaged in unprofessional conduct, that superintendent must report the matter to OSPI’s Office of Professional Practices.
