Early Morning Crash Closes Yakima Intersection
A two vehicle crash at the intersection of 40th and Summitview was reported early Monday morning and Yakima Police are investigating. Police say both cars collided in the intersection at a high speed and both were heavily damaged. A press release from the Yakima Police Department says one driver failed to stop at the red light causing the crash.
Both drivers survived the crash with one taken to a hospital
A press release from the Yakima Police Department says "a 2017 Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Summitview Ave at a high rate of speed.The vehicle failed to stop at the red light. A 2013 Chrysler 300 entered the intersection heading south bound with a green signal and struck the Civic on the passenger side. After the impact the Civic continued westbound for several hundred feet, striking a business sign and coming to rest in a nearby parking lot. The 33-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was transported to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital and admitted with serious injuries. The driver of the Chrysler was treated for minor injuries at the scene." The investigation by the Yakima Police Department Traffic Unit continues today. Police say "Intoxicants and speed are suspected causes of this collision."
