If you've ever recycled a computer rather than throwing it away, you took part in the state of Washington e cycle program -- now in its 10th year and showing a lot of success. The program has recycled 350 million pounds of electronics -- equivalent to the weight of 11,000 recycling trucks.

Although managed by the Washington Department of Ecology and electronics manufacturers, E-Cycle depends on a network of local collection sites and recyclers to ensure everyone in Washington has a convenient place to drop off old electronics. One such site is Yakima’s Union Gospel Mission, where financial support for the program from electronics manufacturers creates jobs for the community.
Since 2009, the Yakima Union Gospel Mission’s recycling program has collected more than 674,000 pounds of electronics -- 48,053 pounds in 2017 alone.
