Court Says Yakama Nation Can Have No Tax Fuel Delivered To Reservation

The Washington state Supreme Court says members of the Yakama Nation can have wholesale fuel delivered to the reservation without being taxed by the state.
Thursday's decision upholds an earlier one in Yakima County Superior Court, where the lower court cited a provision in the Yakama Nation's treaty with the U.S. government.
The tribe is exempt from state sales tax on its reservation.
In 2013, the state Department of Licensing sought $3.6 million in taxes for wholesale fuel delivered from Oregon to the Cougar Den gas station in White Swan, which is owned by tribal member Kip Ramsey. Ramsey took the case to court.
