A new poll reported by the Associated Press found that a diminishing majority of Americans disapprove of protests that have been mounted in some states against coronavirus shutdowns.

Before we go any further, we have to say that a survey taken in Selah or Yakima or Prosser might yield very different results.  Push back protests are happening all over the country but this is a survey from the University of Chicago Divinity School and the The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.  That changes the equation a bit but the information is interesting none-the -less .

This survey says:  55 percent of Americans said they disapprove of the protests,                                          31 percent approve.

Democrats were more likely than Republicans to disapprove of them, but a majority of Republicans, 51 percent, still didn't agree with them.

Large majorities are still in favor of restrictions to try to prevent the spread of the virus, but it's down slightly. The poll found 71 percent are in favor of requiring people to stay home for essential errands, down from 80 percent two weeks before.

Similarly, 67 percent now favor requiring bars and restaurants to close, down from 76 percent in the earlier poll, and 75 percent support a 10-person limit on gatherings, down from 82 percent. (Associated Press)
