The Yakima City Council on Monday will hold a special Zoom meeting to talk about legislative priorities for the next legislative session that starts January 11. The council has invited lawmakers from the 14th and 15th legislative districts as well as city staff and Olympia lobbyists to the meeting. On a list of priorities city officials have a $8.2 million request for the Nelson Dam removal/replacement project on the Naches River. Removing and replacing the dam will reportedly help increase safety and river health.
They also want funding for upgrades at Miller Park. Other priorities  include increased state funding to support local gang prevention, intervention, and suppression programs and continued support of local governments and business in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The city also lists development of a comprehensive transportation funding package that includes additional resources for cities and increased state funding to support local efforts to provide homeless services and affordable housing.
The meeting is set for 1:00 p.m. Monday. The meeting will be live streamed at yakimawa.gov.
