Yakima city crews continue work in the city that could impact your commute.

EXPECT DELAYS SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO FIND A DIFFERENT ROUTE

City officials say water main repairs will result in traffic restrictions on West Walnut Street between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue on Wednesday, July 28th through Friday, July, 30th. Work on the project will begin at 7:00AM and last until 3:30PM each day.

Traffic will be limited to one lane in both directions in the project area. Due to heavy traffic volumes on West Walnut Street, drivers can expect delays. Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the work is completed.

TEMPORARY STOP SIGNS WILL BE IN PLACE ON PENDLETON WAY

Work is also underway at a popular intersection. As a result traffic will be restricted at the intersection of North 1st Street and Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way on Wednesday morning, July 28th, for traffic signal improvements. Traffic at the intersection will be restricted to one lane in each direction during the project work hours of 8:00AM to 12:00PM on Wednesday. Temporary stop signs will be in place as the signal will be off during the project work hours.

Crews will upgrade signal heads at the intersection, replacing 8-inch incandescent signal lights with all new 12-inch LED signal lights.

THE WORK IS PART OF AN ONGOING UPGRADE PROJECT

A city press release says "the project is part of Phase 1 of traffic signal head upgrades in the Downtown Yakima area. Over the past month, City crews installed new 12-inch LED signal lights at the intersections of 3rd Street and Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way, 3rd Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and 2nd Street and Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way."
