It's one of the most dangerous and largest prisons in the world.
If Central Washington ever see's an influx of members of the criminal gang Tren de Aragua they could be sent to El Salvador to serve time.

THE PRISON IS FULL OF GANG MEMBERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

According to the Federal Bureau and Prisons the US has already sent hundreds of criminals to the mega-prison known for harsh conditions. It's called Cecot, which is an acronym in Spanish for Terrorism Confinement Centre. The prison is in the spotlight after the Trump administration arrested and deported more than 200 gang members to sit behind bars at Cecot.

THOUSANDS OF HARD CORE CRIMINALS ARE HELD UNDER HARSH CONDITIONS

The prison was opened in 2023 at a cost of $115 million. It can hold up to 40,000 inmates. It's located in a remote area east of San Salvador and currently holds upward of 15,000 prisoners. There's no outdoor recreation and family visits are banned. The men are packed tight in cells that are designed to hold 70 inmates where they lie on metal in four-story bunks. No blankets or pillows are allowed and inmates wear only white t-shirts and white shorts. The inmates have an average of 6.45 square feet of personal space.

THE INMATES LIVE LIKE ANIMALS EAT WITH THEIR HANDS

They eat food, mainly rice, beans, eggs or pasta with their hands because of the concern that utensils can be made into weapons.
There's no educational workshops or programs and nothing to prepare the inmates for release. The inmates do exercise in cells under the supervision of guards.
The prison has dining halls, break rooms with board games and even a large gym but those things are reserved for guards only. Each guard carries a loaded shotgun to ensure full compliance.
