Best Camping Spots Near Yakima

Rimrock Lake Resort

If you want to add swimming to your camping, Rimrock Lake is the spot for you. Located about 40 miles from Yakima in the Cascades, the lake is a prime yet brisk spot for swimming in June, July, and August.

Rimrock Lake Resort features 27 campsites for tents and RVs with a small eatery and general store. They also have boat ramps and boat moorage available.

Bumping Lake Campground

If you want to go a little more spartan, head up to Bumping Lake Campground. Located at 3,400 feet and an hour and a half from Yakima near Chinook Pass, there is no cell service, making it the perfect place to disconnect. With breathtaking views of the mountains, hiking, and swimming in the glacial lake, Bumping Lake is perfect for family fun.

Windy Point Campground

Tucked snug along the Tieton River, Windy Point isn't nearly as miserable as it sounds. For one, it's only 30 minutes away, and you have direct access to rafting, fishing, and scenic mountain trails!

Big Pines Campground

Located 20 minutes north in Yakima Canyon, Big Pines Campground is perfect for those who like a bit of desert camping. Shade is not prevalent, but the cool water of the Yakima River offers refuge from the heat. Note: There is no drinking water on site, so make sure to bring your own!
