Transform Yakima Together the organization that operates Yakima's homeless encampment called Camp Hope has been chosen to operate the area's winter shelter program. The organization is expected to use $135,000 in funding to open shelters in Yakima and Sunnyside during the winter months. A committee with the Yakima Valley Conference of Governments approved giving the money to Transform Yakima on Tuesday. However a final decision is still needed from the conference of government's executive committee. That vote will happen on Monday.
Transform Yakima is still searching for buildings where the shelters would open in Yakima and Sunnyside in November when the current Camp Hope on East Nob Hill Blvd. closes.
