Memorial Day in the Yakima Valley saw thousands of people visiting grave sites at cemeteries from Ellensburg to the Tri-cities. The long three day weekend started Friday for many as roads were clogged and traffic was congested while everyone rushed to their destination. Many campsites were full throughout the Northwest as people kicked off the first unofficial weekend of summer. (Summer doesn't technically start until June 21.)
For many it was a weekend of relaxation for others it was a time to remember and give thanks to those who gave all for the freedoms in this country. Ceremonies were held in communities in the valley during the weekend including the annual Memorial Parade along Yakima Avenue on Saturday morning.
