Budget Cuts Mean County Jail Layoffs

Budget cuts in the county mean layoffs at the Yakima County Jail. Nine officers and two administrators were laid off this month. The cuts were made to help fill a million dollar shortfall in the jail budget. Staffing is at minimum requirements, and county officials say the jail is still safe. More cuts could be on the way in the future as county officials look for ways to balance the budget.
