When Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey" opens in theatres on Dec. 14, I won't be first in line. But, I will get there as soon as I can!

I didn't see any of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy of films in the theatre. I hadn't read the books either. I have watched the DVDs over and over, and I had read "The Hobbit" years and years ago. It seems like everyone I knew in college was reading the "The Hobbit", even though it came out in 1937. I enjoyed it immensley. So, when it was announced that Peter Jackson was going to give "The Hobbit" his special treatment, I started to look forward to it.

Where "The Lord of the Rings" deals with hobbit Frodo Baggins and his task of returning the One Ring of Power to Mount Doom to destroy it, "The Hobbit" shows us how his uncle, Bilbo Baggins obtained the ring in the first place.

Get ready for dwarves, elves, wizards, dragons, and of course, Gollum. Look for the familiar faces of Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Kate Blanchett, and Elijah Wood. British actor Martin Freeman takes on the role of Bilbo Baggins.

Movie going is a tradition for my family at Christmas time. this one is at the top of our list!
