Yakima Police have finished searching a Yakima lake for a body but the investigation continues.

NO BODY WAS FOUND BUT POLICE CONTINUE THE INVESTIGATION

Capt. Jay Seely says officers spent days searching in and around Yakima's Berglund Lake searching for clues of a possible murder but the search was unsuccessful.
He says the search follows the shooting of a man at the lake Monday by a 25-year-old suspect identified as Aurelio Escobar. Escobar remains in an Oregon hospital after being shot by police following a high speed chase in Oregon on Wednesday. His condition is unknown.

POLICE BELIEVE THE SUSPECT KILLED HIS GIRLFRIEND AT THE LAKE

Police say after shooting a man at Berglund Lake on Monday and stealing his car police found Escobars car parked in the area. In the back seat of the vehicle police found a lot of blood, clothing and shoes that belonged to Escobar's girlfriend who has been reported missing from the Sunnyside area by her family. Police believe she may have been killed at the lake and her body dumped into the water. But a search this week hasn't yet found a body as police continue the search for clues.

THE SUSPECT WAS CAUGHT IN PORTLAND AFTER BEING SHOT BY POLICE

Police say after the suspect stole the vehicle in Yakima he eventually made his way to the Portland Oregon area where he reportedly carjacked other people and was involved in a high speed chase in a stolen vehicle along I-5 in Portland. The suspect was stopped by authorities and Escobar was shot multiple times and taken to an Oregon hospital where he remains and continues to recover.

Police say the body may have been dumped in the nearby Yakima River but no search has been made yet in the river.
