A 43-year-old man is being treated at a Seattle hospital today after being shot in the driveway of his home in Tieton on Tuesday.

REPORTS OF GUNSHOTS AND SCREAMING

Deputies from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office were called to the Tieton area at about 4:10 pm Tuesday after getting a 911 call reporting gunshots and people screaming in the 100 block of Trepanier Lane in Tieton.

DEPUTIES HELPED THE VICTIM AT THE SCENE

When the Deputies arrived in the area they found 43-year-old Richard Kanekeberg in the driveway of his home where he'd been shot "several times." The Deputies helped to stabilize him until medics arrived. Kanekeberg was taken to Multicare Yakima Memorial Hospital but then transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for further treatment. We don't know his condition today. Before being taken to the hospital Kanekeberg told Deputies Maria Varga had shot him.

THE SUSPECT ARRESTED AT THE SCENE

A press release from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office says Varga was still at the scene of the shooting when she was taken into custody. She was taken to the Yakima County jail on a charge of 1st Degree Assault Domestic Violence.  An investigation is ongoing by the Yakima County Sheriff's Office. A DOUBLE MURDER STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION

A double murder in the lower valley reported in August remains under investigation. A 48-year-old man from Granger arrested for two murders in the lower valley remains in the Yakima County jail. Galdino Cruz-Chavez is being held without bail in connection to the August 13 deaths of Jorge Vazquez-Gutierrez and Miguel Cruz-Cid.
