Lots of snow is in the forecast for the Yakima Valley. Local authorities say unless it’s an emergency, you shouldn’t call 9-1-1. Yakima County dispatch gets phone calls whenever the snow flies. Drivers want to know about road conditions. Dispatchers say that takes away time they can use for real emergencies. Possible winds tomorrow might cause a power outage. That means you might want to dig out flashlights and blankets. Also, make sure you have a full tank of gas if you decide to travel. People sometimes are stuck for hours alongside the road and lose heat if they run out of gas. To help out with snow removal, consider moving vehicles off streets. And if you are able, consider checking on vulnerable neighbors and friends. Before the week is over forecasters expect 8 to 12 inches of snow in the Yakima Valley.
