Ballot Activity Surges in Yakima County Ahead of Election
The Yakima County Auditor's Office is experiencing a surge in activity as the general election approaches. Auditor Charles Ross reports that the office has already received about 48,000 ballots, with more expected to arrive as the weekend progresses.
ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE YET?
For those who have yet to register to vote, Ross emphasizes the importance of doing so in person at the Yakima County Auditor’s Office, located inside the Yakima County Courthouse.
ARE YOU WAITING UNTIL ELECTION DAY TO REGISTER AND VOTE
While there is no official deadline for voter registration in Washington state until election day, registration must be completed in person. Ross warns potential voters against procrastination, stating, “Please don’t wait till the last minute to do this, as Election Day lines can be long.” Given the high volume of ballots being processed, waiting until the last minute could lead to extended wait times for registration.
IF YOU HAVEN'T VOTED DO IT TODAY!
For voters who have already received their ballots, Ross offers key tips to ensure they are counted. He advises mailing completed ballots by Friday or Monday at the latest, to allow sufficient time for delivery. Furthermore, he encourages residents to avoid using postal blue boxes on Election Day, as there is no guarantee that ballots mailed on that day will be postmarked by the deadline.
KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN
Ross also urges voters to remain vigilant. If anyone notices suspicious activity around ballot drop boxes throughout the county, they should report it immediately by calling the Auditor's Office at 509-574-1405.
The final day for ballots to be submitted is Tuesday, November 5, marking the culmination of a busy election cycle in Yakima County.
