AT&T Breach Exposes Millions of Call and Text Records, Customers’ Data at Risk
If you are an AT&T cellphone customer you need to know some of your information may be in the hands of the wrong folks.
THE BREACH HAPPENED IN 2022
The telecom company on Friday revealed a big data breach from 2022 exposing millions of call and text message records of AT&T cellphone customers and many non-AT&T customers. According to a news release the information that was exposed included telephone numbers of a majority of cellular customers and the customers of wireless providers that use its network.
IF YOU HAD INFORMATION EXPOSED YOU'LL BE CONTACTED BY THE COMPANY
The exposure happened between May 1, 2022 and October 31, 2022. But information about the breach are just now being released. Officials with AT&T say they're working with authorities to make sure it never happens again. Company officials say there's no connection to similar breach that happened earlier this year.
SOME GOOD NEWS SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS WERE NOT EXPOSED
Unlike that exposure the latest incident did not expose personal information like Social Security numbers, dates of birth, or customer names.
For those who had information exposed AT&T officials say they're contacting current and former customers and giving them tools to protect themselves and their information.
