Everyone loves a parade, and the excitement is building for the 63rd annual Yakima Sunfair Parade scheduled for September 21 in downtown Yakima. In a delightful move for participants, entry fees have been waived this year, thanks to the generous sponsorship from Yakima Federal Savings and Loan.

THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE EXPECTED TO LINE THE PARADE ROUTE

Starting at 10 a.m., the parade will kick off at the corner of 16th and Yakima Avenue and will follow the traditional route down Yakima Avenue to Naches Avenue. This year’s event promises to bring the community together for a celebration of local spirit and creativity.

THE COMMUNITY SPOKE UP ABOUT A GRAND MARSHAL

The search for a Grand Marshal has concluded, and the community has chosen local hero Art Reis to lead the festivities. A press release highlighted Reis's significant contributions, stating that he has made an incredible impact by dedicating his time to numerous non-profits and leading the Vintiques car club. Under his guidance, the club has supported various causes, including children's charities, the YWCA, and scholarships for Yakima Valley College’s automotive department.

OVERCOMING SHYNESS TO PROMOTE LOCAL CAR LOVERS

Reis reflects on his journey, stating that his involvement with the Vintiques helped him overcome shyness and gain the confidence to advocate for car enthusiasts and the broader community. With free entry and a beloved local figure as Grand Marshal, the 2024 Yakima Sunfair Parade is poised to be a memorable event that showcases the vibrant spirit of Yakima. Community members and visitors are encouraged to join the celebration!
