An Oasis In The Traumatic Transition To Foster Care

Ray Deck III has a heart for children.  He's the driving force behind Skookum House in Bellingham.  Skookum House is an emergency oasis for kids who have been removed from their home due to safety and abuse concerns.  Skookum provides up to 72 hours or more of love, care and services while the Foster Care system looks for an appropriate placement for the child.

From Skookum's website, The first 3 days of foster care are often the most turbulent for a child. That's why we pay extra special attention to it with our Skookum House program. Approximately 200 children every year spend their first few days in foster care with us, in the care of our trained volunteers.
