Two major events that happen every year in Yakima are now victims of THE COVID-19 pandemic. The very popular "Downtown Summer Nights" concert series has been officially shuttered for the year. The announcement was made on the events Facebook page. The statement says they're concerned about the safety of everyone including volunteers and vendors so they're delaying the event until 2021. The other big event happens on the 4th of July and it's not happening. The event that was set at State Fair Park on the 4th of July. It's one of the longest-running community celebrations that's now a victim of COVID-19. A news release says due to the Governor’s mandatory ban on large crowd gatherings and concerns regarding the current coronavirus outbreak in Yakima County, the Central Washington Fair Association Board of Directors voted to cancel this year’s celebration. Organizers of both events say they plan to be back in 2021. Plans are already underway with improvements for next year's events.
