Patricia Byers was voted by her fellow council members to serve as Yakima's "ceremonial" Mayor.   At the time she had no way of knowing that in a few weeks she would be the point person in a city with the highest per capita cases of Coronavirus on the West Coast.

She is a calm, mature, prepared and responsible voice in this time of national emergency.

City residents are anxious to get back to work.  They see efforts in states across the country where others are opening up for business and they wonder why not Yakima.

Mayor Beyers was a guest on the Morning News today to clarify what extending the emergency declaration really means.
