Yakima Lights Up the Night: Over 5,000 Celebrate at 26th Holiday Parade!
The 26th Annual Yakima Holiday Lighted Parade is set to happen on Sunday, December 7th, at 6:00 p.m. City officials say they expect upwards of 5,000 people to show up for the event in downtown Yakima.
SANTA IS EXPECTED TO MAKE AN APPEARANCE
The parade will begin at 6th Avenue and continues down Yakima Avenue to 3rd Street, ending on 3rd Street in front of the Capitol Theatre. A press release from the city of Yakima doesn't mention the word Christmas but it does say after the parade a lighting ceremony will be held for the "community tree" at Millennium Plaza where Santa is expected to make an appearance. You are invited to take pictures with Santa during the festivities.

DOWNTOWN YAKIMA BASICALLY CLOSED AFTER 4:00 PM SUNDAY
No on-street parking will be allowed along the parade route from 4:00 pm on Sunday until the completion of the parade. The parade route will also be closed to traffic.
Thanks goes to the city of Yakima and the Downtown Association of Yakima for supplying and maintaining the "holiday decorations."
IT'S TAILGATING TIME FOR MANY
Not only do city officials expect more than 5,000 spectators to line Yakima Avenue but also 100 participants with a majority driving lighted vehicles. The parade is organized by the Yakima Sunfair Parade Association.
Many people line the parade route early and cook food and or have hot chocolate. If you're going and you want a good spot you'll want to join those early arrivers. The parade starts at 6:00 pm.
