Yakima Has Set 3 Cold Temperature Records This Month
If you’ve felt abnormally cold some days this September, you are not imagining things. Yakima so far has set 3 record low temperature records this month!
Records Set
Yakima’s temperature records stretch back to 1892, when they were kept at Moxee until 1945, before being switched to the Yakima Air Terminal afterward, where they have been since.
Not only did Yakima’s downpour of rain Sunday definitively end wildfire season, but Yakima recorded its coldest September 13 in the history of records. The high only reached 56, reminiscent of late October instead of mid-September, when we often see sunny skies and highs in the 70s!
Secondly, if you found Labor Day weekend abnormally cool and wet, you were correct. Sunday, September 6, set the all-time lowest high for the date, coming in at 60, while Monday, September 7, also set the all-time lowest high for the date, coming in at 60 as well. Many were disappointed with the holiday weekend, as high temperatures during this time usually range from the high 60s–high 80s.
Rest Of The Week
I checked the forecast for next week, and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. Today’s high is 71, 68 and cloudy for Tuesday, 76 and sunny for Wednesday, 80 and sunny for Thursday, and 81 and sunny for Friday! Weather looks beautiful over in Seattle as well. A break from the rain will be very nice since we know what November, December, January, February, and March bring to the valley in way of precipitation.
