I was on vacation last week minding my own business being nosy on the internet, when I stumbled upon this story listing Seattle’s most popular books rented at the library in 2023.

I suddenly remembered I have two outstanding library books that I need to return PRONTO. My next thought was, hey, let’s get one of those lists for Yakima Valley! So I rang up the Central Library downtown and asked if they had a list.

Thankfully, the friendly staff at Yakima Valley Libraries were able to send me a list straightaway, and I must say, the list is quite eye-opening. If you would like to see the most popular Braille books, please reach out to the Washington Talking Book & Braille Library.

Yakima Valley Libraries’ mission statement is "together we empower, inspire, and connect.” See the most popular books, e-Books, and audiobooks checked out in 2023.

In the photo galleries below, you can view the most popular books checked out by patrons in the Yakima Valley, including the categories of:

  • Top 10 Adult Fiction (print)

  • Top 10 Adult Non-fiction (print)

  • Top 10 Teen Fiction (print)

  • Top 10 Children’s Fiction (print)

  • Top 15 E-books

  • Top 15 Audiobooks

It is my hope that this list will give you a reason to go visit your own local library and see why all of these books were so popular here in the Valley.

If you don’t have a library card, it’s a quick process to get one. Just go to any local library and ask someone at the Info Desk/Checkout to help you. Bring your I.D.

It is easier to rent a library book now: you can go to their main website, find the book you want to rent, request a hold on the book, then go pick it up. Simple!

FUN FACT: The Winter Reading Bingo Card Challenge begins in 2024! From January 1st thru April 1st. You can pick up a bingo card at any local library here in the Valley. You could win a collectible Winter Reading Challenge pin or keychain.
