Yakima Valley Libraries Close Friday for In-Person Service

If you love books and visiting the library Thursday is the last day that you can visit a library in person until further notice. That's because new COVID-19 restrictions are forcing the closure of Yakima Valley Libraries in Sunnyside, Wapato, and West Valley. The community libraries will close for in-person service effective at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22. While the libraries will close you'll still be able to read your favorite book. Curbside services will be available and the library has added expanded pick-up hours at several of the libraries in the valley.  Kim Hixon, Executive Director of Yakima Valley Libraries says “The need to temporarily discontinue in-person library service is a regrettable but a necessary step in order to ensure that Yakima Valley Libraries is in compliance with the State’s newly-issued COVID-19 regulations for libraries."

A press release says while in-person library service stops Friday you can use the Digital Library that includes free-books, e-audiobooks, streaming video, and digital magazines, all accessible 24/7 from a computer, tablet or mobile device. If you can't decide what to read you might want to try “Personalized Picks." It's a service in which you answer some questions about your reading or viewing interests then the library staff picks out books and other materials that would interest you.
No COVID-19 outbreaks have been reported at any libraries in the state. Officials say they're trying to avoid people gathering to help slow the spread of the virus.
